Yesterday’s excursion was a delightful blend of natural wonder, quaint town charm, and serene lakeside relaxation. Our day began in Berlingen, where we parked our car and hopped on the train to Schaffhausen, excited to explore the famous Rheinfall.

Discovering the Rheinfall

Rheinfall

The Rheinfall, Europe’s largest waterfall, is an awe-inspiring sight. Formed approximately 15,000 years ago during the last Ice Age, the waterfall is a testament to the power of nature. With a height of 23 meters and a width of 150 meters, the Rheinfall sees an average flow of 600 cubic meters of water per second, creating a spectacular display of roaring water and mist. The sight of the water cascading down the rocks was mesmerizing, and we could feel the sheer force of it from the viewing platforms.

Strolling Around Schaffhausen

After taking in the beauty of the Rheinfall, we made our way into the charming town of Schaffhausen. The town is known for its well-preserved medieval architecture, with many buildings featuring intricate frescoes and oriel windows. We wandered through the narrow, cobbled streets, soaking in the historical atmosphere and admiring the beautiful façades.

Cafe Vordergasse

A highlight of our stroll was indulging in a delightful affogato at a local café. The creamy gelato topped with a shot of hot espresso was the perfect pick-me-up, giving us the energy to continue our exploration.

A Serene Boat Ride to Berlingen

Steckborn

In the afternoon, we took a boat from Schaffhausen back to Berlingen. The boat ride was a peaceful and scenic experience, offering stunning views of the Rhine River and the surrounding landscape. The gentle rocking of the boat and the cool breeze made for a relaxing journey.

Dinner by the Lake and a Swan Family Sighting

Back in Berlingen, we enjoyed a wonderful dinner by the lake. The lakeside setting was serene, with the sun setting and casting a golden glow over the water. The meal was delicious, featuring local specialties that satisfied our hunger after a day of exploring.

As we dined, we were delighted to see a lovely swan family gliding gracefully across the lake. The sight of the swan parents and their cygnets was a heartwarming end to our day.
