Ah, life over 60—where the glasses fog up, the bookings mix up, and the laughter never stops! Today, Les Grumpies embarked on what should have been a serene afternoon tea at the Mackintosh at the Willow, an iconic destination for tea enthusiasts and fans of Glasgow’s stunning art nouveau heritage.
With a table booked and anticipation high, we arrived just in time… at the wrong location. (Cue dramatic music.) Now, who could blame us? Mackintosh at the Willow has two tea rooms—one being the opulent Deluxe Tea Room, historically reserved for ladies, and the other, the Original Tea Room. Naturally, Les Grumpies had chosen the Original Tea Room. But, like many adventures in our lives, our sat-nav was not as savvy as our appetites.
Realizing our mix-up, we did what any self-respecting duo would do: we swiftly regrouped, a little flustered but undeterred, and marched to the correct venue. The stroll through the city streets even became part of the fun—because when you’re over 60, every detour feels like a new escapade.
Finally, we arrived at the Original Tea Room, where the warm clink of teacups and the comforting aroma of freshly baked scones greeted us like an old friend. From mismatched bookings to perfectly matched finger sandwiches, it was the kind of happy ending Les Grumpies have come to cherish.
It’s the charm of being over 60, or perhaps it’s just us, but these little mix-ups remind us that life is meant to be savored, even when the journey isn’t perfectly planned. After all, what’s an afternoon tea without a touch of chaos and a lot of laughter?
So here’s to us, Les Grumpies, for turning every wrong turn into a story worth telling. And to all of you navigating life’s detours: your next mix-up come with clotted cream and jam on the side.
