We see it every day. Flowing from our taps, glimmering on holiday postcards, or dancing in our glasses at lunch. But water – especially in the form of oceans and lakes – is under threat.
Here’s why we all need to care:
💧 Fact #1: 71% of Earth is water – but only 0.5% is usable freshwater.
Most of Earth’s water is saltwater in the oceans, and a large part of the freshwater is locked in glaciers. The small percentage we can use for drinking, growing food, and washing is finite – and it’s under pressure.
🐠 Fact #2: Every minute, a garbage truck of plastic enters our oceans.
Our love affair with plastic is suffocating marine life. Turtles mistake bags for jellyfish. Fish ingest microplastics. Even the salt on our tables isn’t plastic-free anymore.
🌿 Fact #3: Healthy oceans = healthy planet.
Oceans produce over 50% of the oxygen we breathe and absorb 30% of the CO₂ we emit. They regulate climate and are home to millions of species, many still undiscovered.
What Can We Do?
Choose reef-safe sunscreens 🧴 Reduce single-use plastic (no more straws, folks!) 🥤 Support clean-up initiatives 🌍 Be mindful of what goes down your drain 🛁 Spread the word and stay curious 📚
Water is life. But it needs our help to stay alive.
Let’s keep our oceans blue, our lakes clean, and our future flowing.
